Starlight & Canvas
Musings and Memories from the Captain’s Quarters
Log Note: This is a living document. Instead of creating new posts, I will drop anchor here to add new musings and memories
Song for the Sunken
Standing on the darkened deck, beneath a canopy of distant stars,
I listen to the rigging sigh in the wind and the rhythm of the tide lapping against timber.
A chorus ascends from the black abyss below, beautiful and haunting.
An ethereal echo of a bygone time and treasures lost - the ocean itself singing a song for the sunken.
The Currency of Stars
Gold is heavy and cold.
It sits dull in pockets, bought with obedience.
I prefer celestial treasures.
Diamonds burning against the dark.
They guide without demanding a return.
The subservient count their coin,
The free count constellations.
The Call of the Canvas
Out here, the wind ignores lineage and ledger.
It asks only if your canvas can take the strain.
Gripping the helm - feeling the timber groan against the
heavy roll of the sea - is to know where you belong.
We don’t sail to escape the world; we sail to hunt it down.
